What is a self help group?
A self help group is a meeting where people can come together to talk about their experiences with people who understand.
What are mood swings?
Most people experience highs and lows in mood. However for some people these highs and lows are extreme and interfere with their everyday life. These swings from extreme high to low are referred to as mood swings. People who experience mood swings may find that their mood swings affect how they think, feel and behave. Mental health services sometimes call these extreme moods swings bipolar disorder or manic depression.
Some people experience more lows than highs, and other people find it’s the other way round. Some people experience extreme mood swings only occasionally. Others experience them more frequently. Highs and lows can vary in length from person to person. Mood swings are often triggered by stressful life events.
Who can join the mood swings group?
The mood swings group is open to anyone who finds their mood swings interfere with their quality of life and would like support in dealing with them. You do not have to have a diagnosis of manic depression/bipolar disorder to join this group.
